Sim card fraudsters granted bail

Over 51 000 sim cards were seized, further investigation has revealed that the said sim cards are ready for usage as they are fraudulently registered on the network with false credentials in contravention of the Regulation of Interception of Communications-related information Act (RICA) of 2003.

Nomsa Lindiwe Mthethwa (50), and Xolani Winston Silubane (40) appeared in the Komartipoort Magistrate’s Court  after they were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit last Thursday for allegedly selling fraudulently registered sim cards.

Members followed up on information received concerning suspects who were selling one of the leading cell phone network provider sim cards at Lebombo Border gate. On arrival the pair was caught on the act of hawking sim cards to people entering the country from Mozambique for R5.00 each.

They were granted R1 500.00 bail each and will appear in court on May 25, 2018 to face charges related to fraud.
