MPUMALANGA – The Evander Regional Court sentenced Gegama Simon Mahlangu to 19 years imprisonment on Tuesday for various counts of fraud related crimes.
According to the Hawks, last year Mahlangu used a card skimming device that recorded motorists bank details when paying their toll fee, defrauding them of their money.
“Later that year complaints were received from the bank regarding clients that had lost money through strange transactions. The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit took up the case and he was arrested in a sting operation after he was found at work in possession of a skimming device,” said the Hawks. Mahlangu will serve four years of his 19-year conviction after contravening the section 86(1) and 86(3) Act 25/2002.
