Elukwatini robbers apprehended at filling station

An eyewitness called the police as soon as they saw it and sent them the suspect's vehicle registration numbers.

Three suspects who robbed a shop at Elukwatini Crossings were arrested at Emkhatsini garage on Sunday.
The trio – Mr Condry Makhubedu (28), Mr Clement Ndubane (30) and Mr Given Mbiba (34) – were found in possession of the stolen items.

They briefly appeared in the Eerstehoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of business robbery. The men were remanded in custody.

The matter was postponed for their formal bail application to March 8.

According to Sgt Peace Mbokane, on February 25 the suspects threatened the store staff with a firearm, ordering them to lie down on the floor inside the storeroom.

One of the employees was ordered to open a safe, where an amount of R23 140 cash was taken.

Clothes and cell phones were also stolen from the shop.

The suspects fled in their get-away vehicle.

“Police responded quickly and circulated the information all over. The suspects were arrested on the same day while filling their car at Emkhatsini garage by the Nelspruit Flying Squad,” said Mbokane.

Two of the suspects fled, leaving the three behind.
