Springs robbers arrested at Elukwatini

According to Sgt Peace Mbokane, Elukwatini police were contacted by a colleague from Ekulindeni informing them that the community of New-stand section in Mooiplaas had reported gunshots and four men at an Ethiopian shop.

The police’s rapid response to information about robbers resulted in three men from Springs, Gauteng being arrested. SAPS received a call regarding four men robbing an Ethiopian shop on the dusty streets of Mooiplaas outside Elukwatini.

The suspects allegedly robbed the shopkeeper of R15 000 cash and airtime vouchers worth R2 000.

Police and members of the community chased the suspects on the hilly terrain of the area, then arrested three suspects aged between 23 and 30. One robber escaped, police are still searching for him.

Information at police disposal revealed that the trio left Springs on the previous night after the fourth suspect, who originates from Elukwatini, allegedly told the others there was more money to be made in this area.

The suspects were found in possession of a 9mm pistol with four live ammunition.
The police are appealing to anyone who might have information on the whereabouts of the fourth suspect, Mr Julius Msibi (40), to contact Col DN Marivate on 084-405-8004

The three in custody will appear in the Eerstehoek Magistrate’s Court today on charges of armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Elukwatini station commander, Col Mfundisi Makamu praised the officials for eliminating the possibility of murders in the area. He further called upon the community to report any suspicious activities to the police, as crime is a reciprocal concern.
