R104 million robbers to be sentenced

The accused are facing various counts ranging from conspiracy to murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping, attempted murder and malicious damaged to property.

The High Court sitting in Delmas will deliver a judgement on a case involving a cash robbery amounting to R104 million.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority on the night of the incident April 13, 2014, the accused and his accomplices armed themselves with their firearms, arrived at the SBV depot in Witbank. They gave out false information of being SBV employees from head office, while some claimed to be police officials who wanted to question employees at the said premises. As soon as the premises were opened they overpowered employees .

They used an industrial drill to get into the safe where they stole cash and some of the employees were forced into motor vehicles to unknown locations. The police received information and they were arrested.

The matter is set down for judgment tomorrow in Delmas.
