Police officers released on bail

The duo was dealing and assisting in smuggling drugs from Swaziland to South Africa. Several transactions took place from August 2016 until the suspects were arrested.

The suspects who appeared at the Tonga Magistrate’s  Court were granted R1000.00 bail each yesterday.

Sibusiso Silas Shabangu (41) and Macdonald Skhumbuzo Masilela (32) were arrested by members of the Mpumalanga Hawks and National Intervention Unit from Tshwane on Wednesday morning at Jeepes Reef for dealing in drugs, corruption, illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Masilela was found in possession of an unlicensed rifle and two dockets were found in  Shabangu’s house. During investigations it was discovered that the dockets  filed at Schoemansdal Police Station. The matter was referred to the Serious Corruption Unit.

Masilela’s case was  postponed to March 7 at the Tonga Magistrate’s Court and Shabangu’ s case was transferred to the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court  on  March 15  for further investigation.
