34-year-old man remanded in custody after additional charges

In a separate incident, another 43-year-old man, Sibusiso Mashabane, was also found dead next to the road also with gunshot wounds in the same area.

A 34-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of a firearm without a licence on October 21 last year. Five additional charges were added against him.
This follows after the police investigation of two murders and three attempted murder incidents that occurred within the Schoemansdal, near Malelane between 2016 and 2017.
According to police, a 43-year-old Thokozani William Mahlalela was found dead in his vehicle with gunshot wounds to the head and neck at Boschfontein on December 10, 2016.
Another 37-year-old man was shot and injured after the suspect demanded money. The couple was asleep when they were rudely awoken by the suspect on January 9 last year. After shooting the suspect raped the man’s wife before fleeing the scene.
The latest two incidents involve a 12-year-old girl and a 35-year-old woman who was also shot in separate incidents at their homes after the suspect allegedly forced entry and demanded food. He then shot and wounded them before fleeing the scene.

“The investigations all pointed to Mahlalela who appeared before the Boschfontein Periodical Court on Tuesday. He has been remanded in custody until 25 January 2018, pending further investigations,” said the police.
