Police investigate the rape of eight-year-old at orphanage

The owner of the centre Mama Esther Nkosi says she was prepared to work with the police in making sure they get all information which may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator

White River police have opened a case of rape after an eight-year-old boy was allegedly raped at the orphanage centre in Msholozi.

Sgt Cynthia Mbokodo, spokesperson of White River police says the case was reported on Tuesday morning after the biological mother of the child who lives a few houses away from Mama Esther Nkosi’s centre, was allegedly woken by a knock at her door around 01:35.

“When she opened the door, she found that it was her son who lives at the centre. He told her that he was raped at the orphanage centre,” she said.

The child sustained injuries on his back and had a swollen face. He was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Mbokodo says no arrest was made so far and police were busy with investigations at the centre.
“There is a possibility for more issues to come up,” she said.

Mpumalanga News has since learnt that the boy was raped by a 27-year-old man.

Speaking to Mama Esther Nkosi, the owner of the centre, she says an unknown man used a hole behind the toilets to enter where the children were sleeping.

“He took the victim to another building at the centre where he assaulted and raped the boy,” he said.

She said she was prepared to work with the police in making sure they get all information which may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator.
