An SBV truck was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash during cash in transit on the N4 Kanyamazane/ Matsulu road yesterday evening.
The incident happened around 17:40 near the entrance to KaNyamazane. It is alleged that a white Mercedes overtook the SBV truck coming from Matsulu side and started firing shots towards the truck.

“The driver of SBV then stopped the truck as some of the bullets had already entered on his side, the passenger tried to run away but he was shot in his back. Both the SBV security guards were disarmed, their service pistol and an R5 rifle were taken from them by the suspects,” explained Capt Jabu Ndubane, spokesperson for Pienaar cluster.
The truck exploded and undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
“The suspects fled the scene in their three vehicles, a charcoal sedan, white Mercedes (ML) and a red golf 5 (Volkswagen). The injured security guard was rushed to a nearby hospital,” adds Ndubane.
Police later found the R5 rifle a few kilometres from the scene.
