Police warn members of the community to be vigilant of an on going scam meant to rob unsuspecting individuals of their money near ATMs around Kabokweni shopping complex.
“We have received complaints whereby criminals rob individuals, mostly women, coming from withdrawing cash from ATMs,” said Capt Shirley Nsimba spokesperson of KaBokweni SAPS.
She added that someone else pretending to be a police officer approaches victims and invites them into unmarked vehicles, robbing them of their belongings.

Nsimba urged the community never to accept help from anyone pretending to be a police officer without verifying that indeed they are police.
An officer will and must introduce him- or herself as a police officer, stating his or her rank followed by his or her name and surname, wearing police uniform and driving a police vehicle.
If it happens that the officer is not in uniform and not driving a marked vehicle, a real police officer will be willing to verify his position by either calling a police-marked vehicle to attend to the scene or allow the suspect to verify his or her position by calling the police station,” she explained.
Nsimba said SAPS are willing to work with the community to ensure that such culprits are arrested.
She also urged members of the community never to get into any vehicle if they are not sure that they are indeed dealing with real police officials.
