Suspected hijackers arrested in White River

Their arrests comes after they allegedly demanded car keys from the complainant at corner Tom Lawrence and William Lynn streets on July 30 around 22:30.

WHITE RIVER – Four suspects arrested for attempting to hijack a motorist at a hiking spot were denied bail by the White River Magistrate’s Court.

Mr Eugene Masina (34), Mr Bheki Thulani Hlahla (31), Bafana Mphaya (26) and Sibusiso Jackie Ntiwane (25) appeared in court on charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and explosives.

They were all remanded in custody pending further investigations.

This allegedly happened after the motorist had dropped his friend at his home. Information at police disposal reveals that the suspects further searched the complainant’s car and shot his feet before leaving him.

Sgt Cynthia Mbokodo spokesperson for White River police, said the complainant managed to drive to the nearest filling station where he contacted the police.

She says the flying squad responded promptly and managed to arrest two of the suspects on the same day in White River. The other two were arrested on Monday at Mganduzweni.
