Police launch manhunt for heist suspects

Four SBV guards were taken to hospital for medical treatment as a result of the injuries they sustained while their vehicle overturned.

Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for unknown suspects following a cash-in-transit heist which happened on the Sabie/ Lydenburg road yesterday.

Information at police disposal reveals that the SBV Security armoured vehicle was heading towards Lydenburg from Mbombela when it was premeditatedly bumped by a white Mercedes Benz coming from the opposite direction.

The SBV vehicle lost control and overturned.

“The suspects then blasted the safe open using explosives. They fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and an armed robbery case was opened for investigation purposes,” said Sgt Gerald Sedibe spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police

The provincial commissioner Lt Gen Mondli Zuma condemns these atrocious act in the strongest possible terms.

“The police will do everything in their power to arrest the perpetrators,” he said.
