Cash-in-transit heist foiled by police

Upon searching the Audi police found three R5 rifles and the five men, aged between 23 and 41 were arrested and the vehicle confiscated as a result. The other suspects who were in the black BMW, with unknown registration numbers managed to flee from the scene.

Yesterday, a cash-in-transit heist was foiled by members of the South African Police Service in conjunction with the SSS private security company in Siyabuswa.

This follows after an intelligence driven sting operation was carried that led to the arrest of five suspects and confiscation of the vehicle they were travelling in.

The police received a tip-off  and acted on information that a group of men were planning to rob a cash-in-transit vehicle at a local shopping mall. Police and security officers swiftly acted on that intelligence, thereby confronting a group of men who were sitting in a stationery dark grey Audi and a black BMW at the mall.

The arrested suspects who are believed to be also involved in other robberies will appear soon at the Mdutjana Magistrate’s Court for Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Police are still looking for the other suspects, hence anyone with information that may assist in the investigation and arrest of the suspects is urged to contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Dudu Poto on 082 302 6621 or the SAPS at Siyabuswa on 013 973 1301 or the SAPS Crimeline at 08600 10111.
