Traffic officer murderers due for sentencing

The accused appeared before court several times and with bail denied, they were remanded in custody. The date for judgement is set for June 29 at the Delmas High Court.

STANDERTON-  On August 5, 2016, Traffic officer, Bongani Nkumba was killed in Meyerville on Vrede road.

Nkumba who was stationed at Standerton Provincial Traffic Department, was on duty  road when he saw a black Jeep which stopped on the non-stopping area, giving a male a lift. He then approached the driver and requested him to produce his driving licence and informed driver that he is going to issue a tickets for him and there after he will take him for alcohol testing.

After the deceased requested the driver to come with him to the state vehicle, the driver asked for permission to get his phone in his car. According to a lady who was a passenger,  the driver took a firearm and put it in his right pocket of his trouser and followed the traffic officer.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that they heard several gunshots and they saw the driver running back to his car driving in high speed. The police were summoned and they followed the Jeep which was recovered at Maseru Bridge Border Post where three people were arrested.

Three accused,  Thabiso Mohoesi (33), Palesa Letabane (21) and Tshepo Masihle(30) appeared before the Delmas Court facing a murder charge and other several other offences.
