Man who allegedly torched police station sentenced for other crimes

The same Regional Court previously granted the accused another three year sentence on May 11, on a charge of assault with an intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he assaulted another man at Sakhele Township in Dullstroom, while robbing him of his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash.

A 29-year-old Thomas Bhekumuzi Masina, who was arrested for allegedly setting alight the detectives’ offices at Dullstroom, received a 12 months sentence yesterday at the Belfast Regional Court on a charge of possession of stolen property.

Masina was found with vehicle registration certificates of two vehicles and a sound system which were stolen during a burglary at a certain house around Dullstroom when the police searched his house during the arson arrest.

He was granted twelve months jail sentence of which six months suspended for three years.
The sentencing was granted with an option of R6 500 fine of which R4 500 was suspended for five years.

Masina is still expected to appear before the Dullstroom Periodical Court on July 4, 2017 for a formal bail application for torching the detectives’ offices.
