Former security guard linked to 39 cases of rape and house robberies

According to police, the suspect's arrest came after an investigation which was launched following a number of incidents which were reported between 2009 and 2015 at Mhluzi near Middelburg, as well as Vosman near Witbank.

A 32-year-old former security guard who has been positively linked to 39 cases of rape and house robberies has been recently arrested from his hideout in Maviljan Trust near Bushbuckridge.

“ In those incidents, it was reported that an unknown person broke into the houses of victims while they were asleep, held them at gunpoint, raped and robbed them of their belongings. The investigation led to the arrest of the suspect at his hideout in Maviljan Trust near Bushbuckridge and he will appear at the Circuit of the Pretoria High Court sitting in Delmas on May 22 for trial,” says Brig Leonard Hlathi, the provincial police spokesperson in Mpumalanga.

The provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Mondli Zuma applauded the police for their work in arresting the suspect. He reiterated that fighting crime against women and children is one of the priorities of the police and every effort is made to bring perpetrators to book.

The rapist’s arrest was a result of joint efforts between Investigative Psychology Section from National Head Office, Crime Intelligence in Mpumalanga and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence (FCS) Unit in Witbank, after working tirelessly to trace and arrest the perpetrator.
