Suspects in court for attacking elderly couple

Three suspects were arrested for the murder of a couple on their Marchland farm in Dullstroom.

BELFAST – The suspects, aged between 23 and 32, were arrested in their hideouts in Belfast on February 24.

They are expected to appear before the Belfast Magistrate’s Court today on charges of murder, house robbery, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

It is alleged that at about 03:00 on February 19 the armed suspects accosted an elderly couple, Mr Robert Lynn (60) and Ms Sue Howard (59), at their home – guns blazing.

They shot and wounded Howard and severely burned Lynn with a cutting torch before robbing the victims of their camera, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash. After the ordeal, the suspects further robbed the victims of their blue Nissan double-cab bakkie and forcefully took the couple with them.

According to police, the suspects shot and dumped Lynn in the bushes near Stofberg. They further tossed Howard out a little distance further on.

A passer-by spotted the victims then alerted the police who quickly arranged for the couple to be taken to hospital. Howard succumbed to her injuries on February 21 due to her injuries.
