Rattex pellets confiscated from drug dealer’s house

ELUKWATINI – A box of Rattex pellets believed to be used in manufacturing Nyaope is among the exhibits confiscated by the local police during the arrest of a 26-year-old man believed to be dealing in drugs.

The arrest of Thami Zwane of Nhlazatshe Extension 5 came after police received a tip-off.
According Sgt Peace Mbokane, the suspect was arrested at his apartment on Wednesday morning.

While searching his house police discovered a 9mm pistol magazine with four live ammunition, plastic bags containing Nyaope drug and loose dagga to the value of R250-00. The police also confiscated a box of Rattex pellets suspected to be used as an ingredient for manufacturing Nyaope), as well as other four small plastic bags believed to contain drugs. Coins to the vaalue of R221, 20 were also discovered.

“The police reasonably believed that this cash is exchanged with the drug patrons. Two green bar coded South African ID books belonging to two unknown males were also found at the scene. There is a high possibility that they can be a pledge for debts by addicts who couldn’t pay cash for the drugs and the police are investigating,”explains Mbokane.

The suspect appeared before Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court today on charges of dealing in drugs, as well as contravening the Firearms and Ammunition Control Act, 60 of 2000. He will appear again in court on February 7 for his bail application.
