Suspects sought for armed robberies in separate incidents

The guards were coming from Emalahleni heading towards Kriel when a Toyota Land Cruiser approached head-on to the armoured vehicle while it was at a four-way stop.

Police have launched a manhunt for a group of men who shot a security guard who was driving an escort vehicle and robbed an SBV armoured vehicle of an undisclosed amount of cash.

Suddenly a number of vehicles which included a white Audi A4, a gold Toyota Fortuner and a white Isuzu bakkie surrounded the vehicle. The passengers from those vehicles, were armed with rifles including AK47s, jumped out of the vehicles, shot and wounded the guard on the escort vehicle, disarmed the guards then blasted the rear door of the armoured vehicle.

They then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. No arrests have been made yet, but investigations are underway. The injured guard and his colleague who also sustained injuries during the head-on collision were rushed to hospital.

In a separate incident, police in White River are looking for suspects who attempted to commit a business robbery in the early hours of the Monday morning, at the White River Village Mall.

The suspects whose faces were covered with balaclavas were armed with an assortment of weapons. They approached security guards who were on duty at the mall, ordered them to lie down and then tied them up before proceeding to one of the Automated Teller Machines which they attempted to unlock.

It was then that the alarm system went off alerting one of the security companies who in turn alerted the police. Upon arrival of the security personnel, they approached the suspects and a shootout ensued. As a result of that, one of the suspects was wounded and the others managed to flee the scene.

The injured suspect was rushed to hospital where he is under police guard.
