Resort robbers to appear in court today

The police managed to arrest all the five suspects, including the wounded one who later succumbed to death whilst under police guard at the hospital.

Four suspects, two men and two women aged between 18 and 34, are expected to appear before the Graskop Magistrate’s Court today.

This follows after they were caught during a business robbery at a resort in Dientjie near Graskop, which was committed together with their 26-year-old accomplice who was shot and wounded. Information at the police’s disposal alleged that on Monday at approximately 04.30, the police in Dientjie received a complaint about a business robbery at the Blyde River Forever Resort.

They swiftly drove to the scene and on their arrival, they found a silver grey Renault Clio fitting the description given to them with five occupants. They ordered all five occupants to get out of the vehicle and lie on the ground. The suspects complied except for one who pulled out a firearm, pointed it towards the police and in response, police shot him on the upper body.

On further investigation, it was discovered that two security guards were severely assaulted by the suspects during the robbery and had to be hospitalised too. At the scene, police confiscated a firearm, explosives and noticed that the suspects had dismounted a safe belonging to the resort.

It appears that the explosives were intended to blow the safe open. the suspects are facing charges of business robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives, assault with intent to cause bodily harm as well as murder.
