Two women guilty for possession of illegal cigarettes

The illicit cigarettes were forfeited by the state

MBOMBELA – Two women arrested for possession of illegal cigarettes worth over R90 000 were found guilty by the Tonga Magistrate’s Court.

Ms Emilina Mhlongo (42) and Ms Lizzy Mathonsi (35) were found guilty for Customs and Excise on July 14. Mhlongo was sentenced to R10 000.00 or 12 months imprisonment suspended for five years while Mathonsi was sentenced to three years imprisonment or a fine of R15 000.

The illicit cigarettes were forfeited by the state.

The two were arrested in June 2015 after being found in possession of nine Master cases and forty one Cartoons of Safari Cigarettes at the value of R90 000.00
