Two men arrested for Annatjie’s kidnapping

There were no visible injuries on her body. A post-mortem will determine the cause of death.

WHITE RIVER – Two men have been arrested for the kidnapping and hijacking of 58-year-old pensioner.

They will both appear in the White River Magistrate’s Court today.

A 26-year-old local man and a 32-year-old Mozambican man are expected to make their first appearance before court on charges of hijacking and kidnapping Mrs Annatjie Myburgh who was supposedly hijacked from her home in the Curlews Rocky’s Drift outside White River on Wednesday June 15.

Her body was discovered on June 18 in bushes outside White River.

“An intensified search for the victim by the SAPS Flying Squad, White River K9 Unit, volunteers and other security partners led to the discovery of her body and the arrest of the suspects. The first suspect was arrested at Chochocho on June 18 and the second one arrested later on Saturday at his hide-out in Cunningmore near Bushbuckridge,” explained Sgt Gerald Sedibe, provincial police spokesperson.

Sedibe added that a post-mortem is still to be conducted to determine the cause of Myburgh's death.

"There were no visible injuries on her body. A post-mortem will determine the cause of death,"added Sedibe.
