MGANDUZWENI – A rape suspect was forced to undress before being assaulted by a vigilante mob of women.
The 35-year-old suspect is accused of raping an eight-year-old girl.
He was allegedly caught by a passer-by who heard screams near a water plant. When the residents confronted him, he then told them that the girl had agreed to have sex with him.
When Mpumalanga News arrived at the scene, the police had already rescued the suspect from the women.
“The nerve he has to say it was consensual sex. He must just thank his lucky stars that the police had rescued him. We wanted to deal with that stick (his manhood) that caused him to do such a shameful thing,” said one of the women, Ms Thalitha Masuku.
Local police have confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had been severely beaten and was taken to Themba Hospital for treatment.
A rape case has been opened. The police further urged community members not to take matters into their own hands, but alert them of incidents and make use of community police forums in their respective areas.
