Chiefs take on Cape Town City at Mbombela

Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City will battle it out at the Nedbank quarter-final at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

In January, City coach Benni McCarthy admitted that he was wary of the Glamour Boys following their three losses in a row.

However, their confidence may be greater than Amakhosi following their league performance.

He told Soccer Laduma at the time that he has not beaten Amakhosi as a coach yet. “Chiefs are another story.

Three attempts and three losses. It’s not going to be easy, but as confident as I am in my team, I’m sure since the arrival of Ernst Middendorp they have become more organised. They are more solid and disciplined.

“They are a decent unit, so it is not going to be an easy game but for me, my main priority now is getting my players recovered and seeing where the niggles are. I am delighted to have Surprise Ralani back from a long lay down,” he said at the time.

The Soweto giants disgraced the Citizens with a 4-1 victory last August. But the striker, Kermit Erasmus said he knows his route to the back of Chiefs net.

He has scored three goals in his last four league games and helped his team win two of them – against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and former leaders Bidvest Wits.

But the solid striker should have had a couple more in the goalless home draw with Polokwane City two weeks ago.

This is his chance to redeem himself on Sunday. Middendorp said he has rolled up his sleeves for the much-anticipated encounter, as it appears to be the team’s last chance to convert their fortunes.

Their Absa Premiership title campaign is over after their 1-1 draw with SuperSport United on March 15. “Our focus is on the game against City.

The two weeks allowed us some preparation time and we look forward to that encounter,” he said in a report.
