Caring4Girls founder invited to over seas conference

The conference aims to bring together global academics, researchers, activists, NGO’s and corporate organisations to discuss some of the critical issues currently affecting the MHM field.

MBOMBELA – The province’s mountain climber, Richard Mabaso’s initiative, Caring4Girls, has been invited to attend the inaugural Oxford Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Conference.

This took place on June 15 at the prestigious St Hugh’s College in the United Kingdom.

The conference aims to bring together global academics, researchers, activists, NGO’s and corporate organisations to discuss some of the critical issues currently affecting the MHM field.

The day was filled with lectures and interactive panel discussions.
Through effective dialogue between delegates many MHM issues will be better understood internationally.

“We are delighted to see our programme get international recognition and we believe that it is crucial for Africa’s voice to be heard at international events. We are thrilled that Caring4Girls is to be one of those voices,” says Mabaso.

From humble beginnings, Caring4Girls was established in 2012 in the Luphisi village, outside Pienaar after Richard overhead a fearful conversation between his mom and his niece as they talked about menstruation. The conversation inspired him to start a campaign to demystify puberty while providing essential sanitary towels to many underprivileged girls in South Africa.

Mabaso is overjoyed that his vision is inspiring South Africa, Africa and the world. He feels it is becoming part of a global conversation to highlight menstrual challenges where solutions are found to make sure that poor girls do not miss school due to the lack of sanitary pads.
Mhaule also congratulated Mabaso in recognition of this international invitation.

“It is good to see the world engaging on matters that are aimed at the restoration of the dignity and empowerment of the girl child because it is said that taking care of the girl child is taking care of the nation. It was based on this context that the Mpumalanga Department of Education endorsed the Caring4girls Programme,” says Mhaule.
