People living with albinism participate in an awareness walk in Mbombela
The Mpumalanga legislature hosted the first parliament for people with albinism yesterday. They were also given the platform to raise their concerns.
For the first time in the history of the Mpumalanga legislature, a parliament for people with albinism was held on June 21.
This was designed to show them appreciation and offer them equal treatment as South Africans.
The day began with an awareness march from the Grove Shopping Centre to the legislature.
Their placards carried messages like:
“We appeal for greater protection, stop abuse”,
“We need equal access to health care, social services, employment opportunities”, and “Dispel the myth surrounding albinism
.
