Protesters bring Umjindi to standstill

The residents of Umjindi have vowed to bring the township to a total standstill should they not receive a positive response from the City of Mbombela Local Municipality (CTMLM) executive mayor, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi, before the close of business today.

BARBERTON – Looting of shops owned by foreign nationals, disruption of teaching and learning at all four high schools within Emjindini, turning away of workers from reporting for duty and transportation denied to enter nor exit the township, was the order of the day today as the residents demanded that their marriage as Umjindi Local Municipality residents and that of Mbombela Local Municipality be declared null and void.

The residents of Umjindi have vowed to bring the township to a total standstill should they not receive a positive response from the City of Mbombela Local Municipality (CTMLM) executive mayor, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi, before the close of business today.
A memorandum of demand by the residents was handed over to Mr Derrick Ndlovu, CTMLM manager for the Umjindi North Region, who promised to forward it to Mathonsi.
