Lance Gibson, President for Mpumalanga Boxing Organiation (Mpabo) said he was impressed by the overall performance of all the boxers who exchanged blows on the day. “Boxing has tremendously improved in Mpumalanga for the past few years. The team we selected here today (Saturday) is a good one in all the three groups – junior, youth and elite. I’m definitely sure that they will compete at the South African (SA) national championships,” said Gibson.

He was, however, not satisfied with the level of discipline shown by both the boxers and their coaches when it comes to punctuality. “At the SA national championships they are strict with time. They give you one minute to be ready to enter the ring. If you fail to comply, they disqualify you. But this is a minor thing that we will deal with both with the coaches and the boxers themselves,” added Gibson.
