Glitz and glamour at the Penryn College Matric farewell dinner
The Penryn Matric farewell dance was a night the young couples will remember forever. With the hall magnificently decorated to the theme of the Great Gatsby, it promised to be a celebration the infamous Jay Gatsby would have thrown himself.
The beautifully dressed scholars arrived for an evening of fun and dancing to the delight of family and friends who sat in the grand stands; waiting for them to walk down the red carpet and into the hall for what promised to be a legendary party.
The Grade 11s, who were on hand to wait on their seniors, were dressed in gorgeous Gatsby outfits. A lovingly restored Rolls Royce, wall-to-floor Gatsby artwork and table settings with stunning white ostrich feathers leant the hall an air of glamour and sophistication.
Three Grade 11s welcomed the couples as they arrived in everything from a Maserati and Lamborghini luxury car to riding pillion on the back of a Harley Davidson bike. They regaled the waiting crowd with fun facts from the Great Gatsby era while the couples had their photographs taken. Then it was into the hall for the excited couples to join their friends.
A few mothers wiped tears from their eyes as they, no doubt, looked on with the realisation their ‘babies’ are now grown-up, gorgeous individuals with a whole new life awaiting them after they matriculate.
