Twenty stolen sheep compressed in a car

ERMELO – The discovery of a  toyota tazz squashed with 20 sheep resulted in an arrest of a 24-year-old man  during a routine patrol.

According to the police, they spotted a suspicious looking vehicle on the road between Lothair and Mpuluzi. After stopping it they conducted a search and discovered that all the passengers’ seats had been removed and the vehicle was loaded with 20 sheep.

The driver failed to produce any permit to transport the stock or proof of purchase on request. He was nabbed on the spot and taken to the police station for further interrogation. During the process, it emerged that the sheep were stolen from a certain farm in Lothair.

The police also discovered that 16 of the sheep were already dead because of suffocation. –

“The conduct of the suspect deserves much to be desired and as a result, a further charge of animal cruelty might be levelled against him. It is unbelievable what other people think sometimes.

Twenty (20) sheep in a Toyota Tazz, where on earth can somebody do such a cruel act. This man packed the sheep like bread and expected them to live. This is quiet strange and it must be condemned in the strongest terms it deserves.

I am happy though that he has been arrested and my commendation goes to the members who spotted the suspect”, said the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela. –
