Clash of the choirs auditions in Mpumalanga

"This year Mpumalanga is taking the grand prize "

Out of hundreds of hopefuls auditioning for this year’s season of Clash Of The Choirs, only 20 returned home victorious. Hailing from all corners of the province, nervous contestants could not hide their nervousness while waiting to impress choir master Moneoa Moshesh at the Mbombela Stadium.

The vivacious Moneoa had swapped the microphone for the choir-master’s chair on Saturday and Sunday, putting together the choir to represent the province in the show’s second season.

Singing sensation Moneoa rose to fame with the release of her album, Coming from Going To, when she started her career at Rawknait Entertainment and collaborated with the likes of Shugasmakx, Revolution, DJ Kent, Ebsian and Lulo Café. Her well know chart-topping song is “More Than You”.

“I’m excited to be part of this amazing show that challenges choirs to sing outside their comfort zone, allowing them to rearrange well-known RnBand Afro-pop songs into choir format sound. I am in this to win it for Mpumalanga,” said Moneoa.

She added she was impressed with her choice as the other teams needed to brace themselves for serious competition coming their way this year.

On the first day of the auditions, the choir master took to the streets of Nelspruit and the surrounding areas of KaNyamazane, looking for talent to jump the queue to get to the auditions. While at the main auditions venue, Christine Ludwig, the vocal coach, was short-listing contestants for Moneoa during the second round on Sunday.

“We spotted raw talent during the tour and I was amazed at what small towns like Matsulu had to offer. I can safely say that we have a strong team. Watch this space, here comes team Mpumalanga!” said the excited Moneoa.

On the second day of the auditions, contestants were challenged to perform various genres of music ranging from pop and RnB to gospel to kwaito – in choral formation.

One of the hopefuls who has been selected to be part of the choir, Sello Mbowane of Mkhuhlu, was overjoyed at being chosen out of the many talented singers.

“This year, Mpumalanga is taking the grand prize because I am in. I’m confident that Moneoa will take us to greater heights. She is a great and organised musician,” said the excited Mbowane.
