A handful of locals witnessed the occasion, including Gert Sibande District’s executive mayor, Cllr Walter Mngomezulu, and the local executive mayor, Cllr Mbuso Magubane, who stood in on behalf of the MEC for co-operative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs, Speed Mashilo.

Nkosi was identified by a local structure as a beneficiary deserving to be prioritised. In response, the department expanded the scope of its work on an ongoing project nearby to include him and his family.

An excited Nkosi exclaimed: “I thank God for my community who assisted me to get this house. I am so grateful that government has prioritised me, it shows that they do care for people like us.”

Upon handing over the house keys, Mngomezulu said providing assistance and support to the most vulnerable in communities remains a key priority of government. “I am so pleased to hand over this well-built house that will meet Nkosi’s primary needs. We are working hard to ensure that the most vulnerable in society lived in improved, safer and dignified homes.”
