KwaMhlanga teacher earns second place in national awards

The National Teachers Awards honoured Nomfundo Skhosana and praised her dedication to her work.

A University of Mpumalanga (UMP) alumnus, Nomfundo Skhosana, a teacher at Sibongimpumelelo Primary School in KwaMhlanga, has recently been recognised for her dedication and determination at the National Teachers Awards.

She earned second place in the category of excellence in primary school teaching at the district level.

The UMP’s comprehensive academic curriculum and hands-on experiences prepared me to compete nationally.

Skhosana recently graduated with a master of education degree in early childhood education at the UMP. “This award validates my hard work, has boosted my confidence and motivates me to continue positively impacting my learners. The UMP’s comprehensive academic curriculum and hands-on experiences prepared me to compete nationally,” she said.

The provincial instalment of the National Teaching Awards took place at the Kruger National Park on August 24. These awards are one of the ways in which the Department of Basic Education acknowledges the extraordinary efforts made by excellent teachers, often in very difficult conditions.

Indeed, this platform provides us with an opportunity to honour those teachers who give all their soul, mind and body to teach and transfer skills, knowledge and values to our learners.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, the education MEC, Cathy Dlamini, congratulated all the teachers. “Thank you very much for this opportunity to extend our accolades to the torchbearers for people’s emancipation – our teachers. Indeed, this platform provides us with an opportunity to honour those teachers who give all their soul, mind and body to teach and transfer skills, knowledge and values to our learners. We are proud to be associated with the calibre of teachers who are resourceful, caring, loving and have the interest of our children and that of our communities at heart.”
