Mduduzi Vilakazi made his first public appearance since his suspension as the CEO of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) a week ago. He made an appearance in his personal capacity as a guest speaker. Addressing the gathering, Vilakazi advised the women to refrain from competing with one another and to start complementing one another instead, arguing that society benefits enormously from the unity of women.

“The perfect lesson and example can be drawn from the women of 1956 who came together against one common enemy, an enemy who was armed with guns and teargas. Those brave, united women managed to bring down the arrogance and ill-treatment of the apartheid system. This is proof enough that when women are united, there’s so much that can be achieved,” he said.

The event was graced by the presence of various notable dignitaries, such as the director of Mboweni and Partners, Victoria ‘Gogo Nyoni’ Mboweni, the general manager of Nkomazi Oil and Fuel, Bongiwe Magagula and iNkhosikati LaMncanco.

Zenzele Nkosi, Lwazi Mahlalela, Victoria Mboweni, Mduduzi Vilakazi, Bongiwe Magagula, iNkhosikati LaMncanco and Nonhle Shongwe.

“I have noted with dismay on social media that some women have misconstrued the significance of the day in that they are demanding ‘Women’s Rights Day allowance’, thus undermining the true essence of Women’s Rights Day, ” added Vilakazi.

In her address at the event, Mboweni, a renowned former State prosecutor, advised women to draw up legal wills to protect their assets and also warned against the ‘pull-her-down syndrome’.

iNkhosikati LaMncanco, who serves as a probation officer of the court, cautioned the continued staying of women in abusive relationships due to socio-economic disparities. “It is self-defeating to assume that tolerating abuse for the sake of children is a worthy sacrifice because you will eventually die and leave those children behind,” said LaMncanco.
