Nkomazi mayor inspects progress of community projects

The oversight visits were conducted at the construction of a 3.5km pavement, 1 000-seater hall and a water treatment plant.

The water supply to a number of villages under the Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM) is set to be upgraded by September. This is according to the NLM’s executive mayor, Phindile Magagula.

She visited several sites where the municipality launched ongoing projects for assessment. Among these was the upgrade of the Block C water treatment plant, which is currently at 84% and is envisaged to be complete by the end of August.

“Issues of water will be a thing of the past once this project is complete. This treatment plant links a number of villages such as Ngwenyeni and Dludluma, which have had water shortages for quite some time now. There’s also another water project that has been completed in Steenbok, but it will only be put to motion when the treatment plant in Block C has been completed as they are linked,” said Magagula.

Her oversight visits also included a 3.5km pavement and a 1 000-seater community hall, both in Block C.

“When we talk about building a better life for the people of Nkomazi, it includes making their lives easier in every way possible. We want to make the connections easier within the communities. These projects are also a great tool to create employment. Through this paving project, six contractors, two women, two youth and two men have been employed. Visiting these projects is also a way of ensuring that the contractors adhere to requirements. Community members should be able to benefit from these projects,” she added.

The state-of-the-art community hall is almost completed. “It is long overdue, but I am happy that the project is at the phase of touch-ups. The hall’s proximity to Chief Nicolas Ngomane’s office will make things even easier as he will be able to use it for community meetings. We will continue to visit more of the NLM’s projects to ensure that everything is done within the set time frames.”
