Zoeknog to finally get tarred road

The newly appointed MEC for public works, roads and transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, has promised to address the issue the key roads in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, which includes 9km of the D3954 and D3958 roads between Casteel and Zoeknog.

After waiting many years and living with empty local government promises, the community of Zoeknog will soon have a tarred road.

The newly appointed MEC for public works, roads and transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, announced his commitment to expedite the completion of lagging infrastructure projects.

Keen to prove he is the right man for the job, Thomo made this promise during his first 100 days in office. A total of 9km of the D3954 and D3958 roads between Casteel and Zoeknog will be tarred, starting in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality (BLM).

The community of Zoeknog has been taking to the streets for years, protesting for the road, saying it was the only language the government understands.

The project will benefit locals in terms of job creation.

Thomo requested that the community ensures the construction runs smoothly without any protest interruptions. He urged them to protect the road and refrain from burning tyres on it.

Zoeknog community members welcomed the news, but said they would only believe it once construction starts, as they had been promised many years ago that this tarred road would be built for them, but nothing happened.

Other communities in BLM will also benefit from the completion of the upgrading of the D4407 between Hluvukani and Timbavati (7.82km), the D4409 in Welverdiend (6.46 km) and the D4416/2 between Timbavati and the P194/1.
