Mpumalanga SAPS to tackle crimes with eSwatinian police
The purpose of hosting a delegation was to establish solutions for tackling cross-border crimes between Mpumalanga and eSwatini.
The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, hosted a delegation from the Royal eSwatini Police Services at the provincial police head office on Wednesday May 22, with the aim of forging ways in which addressing cross-border crimes between Mpumalanga and eSwatini can be made easier.
Manamela said the meeting’s relevancy emanated from and cemented the memorandum of understanding signed by both countries in 2017. Some of the crimes highlighted were stock theft, carjackings and drug trafficking.
“We want to solidify our relationship with eSwatini. We are on a mission to prevent the crime faced by both countries. The aim was to deliberate on strategies to combat crimes such as the hijacked vehicles and drugs transported, and how our detectives will deal with docket management between the two countries,” Manamela said.

“Some solutions we engaged on were the intergovernmental operations to become key for benefitting both countries. We seek to encourage our police rural safety strategies that entail having effective awareness campaigns and involving other governmental departments for assistance.”
The senior deputy national commissioner of the Royal eSwatini Police Services, Emmanuel Sula Dlamini, echoed Manamela. He added that they seek to make the partnership a success.
“We have a long history of supporting and collaborating with each other, but not only at combatting cross-border crimes. The SAPS has assisted us on many strategic operations, including the examination of forensic material at the head laboratory in Pretoria. May the spirit of support and collaboration continue so we can enjoy a prosperous economy that is crime-free,” Dlamini said.
