Sadtu hosts principals’ seminar in White River

The MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, gave a word of encouragement to all the principals and reminded them of the role they play in education.

The MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, said principals play a significant role in creating conditions that are conducive for learning and teaching.
This was during the principals’ seminar organised by the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) at Pine Lake Lodge on Wednesday May 8.

He said their leadership prowess is very instrumental and must be a pillar for the good management of schools. “We are very fortunate, because there are countless principals of such calibre in our province.”

During this seminar, he looked back at a time when the Mpumalanga Department of Education used to invite principals from other provinces to encourage locals. According to him they no longer have to invite these outstanding principals.

“Unlike before, when this province had a lack of good practices and would have to go as far as Limpopo (Sibasa) to invite a principal of Mbiwi Secondary School for him to share best practices.”

He commended the visionary leadership of Sadtu for the seminar session and for shining not only the provincial spotlight, but a global outlook of educational events.

“We equally commend the Department of Basic Education for programmes like the National Teaching Awards, which afford us an opportunity to extend our gratitude to our best teachers and principals,” he said.

He said Mpumalanga teachers and principals constantly feature as winners of such awards.
