Mpumalanga MEC for health launches workplace sports and recreation day

This programme is responsible for promoting healthy lifestyles for all the employees of the Department of Health and some of the other departments.

The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, launched the Provincial MEC Workplace Sports and Recreational Day at Mbombela Stadium on Friday March 15.

According to the Department of Health (DoH), the event was attended by 1 000 health employees and officials of other departments in the province.

The health and wellness programme in the DoH has a core responsibility to implement the effective and efficient wellness initiatives, which aims at promoting healthy and active lifestyle for all employees. The launching of the sports and recreation day is one among other activities that will assist the department to achieve its objective.
Manzini said the initiative will promote, enhance and achieve the highest level of mental health through physical activity.

“This will build strong relationships through different sporting codes where we will engage with one another outside of work. It can promote a better understanding among colleagues and lastly improve performance and reduce absenteeism and other negative coping mechanisms. Physical activities lead to emotional and psychological well-being. Therefore, the morale of employees will improve and this will result in the highest level of performance and productivity,” she said.
