Hazyview artists receive exposure at music festival

The festival has also created job opportunities for a number of young arts and tourism practitioners and empowered small local businesses.

The Hazyview Music Festival and Cultural Esprimo on February 10 has successfully brought various communities together to enjoy music and cultural heritage expression, while opening local business opportunities at the same time.

The event, in Spin City in Numbi, was the brainchild of Leisure Lekhuleni, who gave local art practitioners an opportunity to showcase their talents and share the stage with prominent artists.

Lekhuleni said it was a huge success, as it had achieved its aim of integrating multiple African music genres and cultural heritage activities embracing Africanism across Hazyview’s local communities.

“This was an event that created job opportunities for a number of young arts and tourism practitioners and empowered small local businesses. The concept of our project was to embrace the beauty and pride of different South African cultures through music, dance, visual arts, crafts and cultural heritage activities,” he said.

As a result of the positive feedback from community members and businesses, another similar event will be hosted in September.

“The line-up saw 70% local artists performing, and we strongly believe that society will as a result be proud to support local content, our aim with all our events. We are hoping even more people will attend the next one. We also believe the local artists received the exposure they needed and the platform will open more opportunities for them,” Lekhuleni said.

He finally thanked all the people who supported their events, as well as the sponsors and the necessary law enforcement who ensured people were safe there and afterwards when they returned home. There was no report of any robbery, accident or injuries, which, the organisers said, was how it should be.
