Nkomazi FM wins Best Community Radio Station Award

Makhosi Zulu, the station manager, said they are incredibly proud of their team and listeners.

Despite the challenges community radio stations face, Nkomazi FM has proven they can still make a mark.
The station won the Best Community Radio Station Award during the recent Mpumalanga Gospel Music Awards (Mgomas) held at Mbombela Stadium.
Nomathemba Nkosi of Nkomazi FM also won an award, the best gospel radio presenter, and her show won the best gospel radio show award.

For over 10 years, this event has recognised locals for the impact they make in the province.

Makhosi Zulu, the station manager, said, “We thank God for our recent award win. It was unfashionable to play and prioritise local content and music when we started, but we made it cool and fashionable. We are incredibly proud of our team and listeners, especially Nkosi, who has been with us since the beginning. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Malelane SUPERSPAR, Vodacom Mbombela and the Nkomazi Local Municipality for their unwavering support. As one of the top community radio stations in the country and the number-one station in Mpumalanga since 2014, we are honoured and thrilled. Thank you for your ongoing support.”

Nkosi said it was a great honour and privilege to be nominated among the greatest people in radio.

“As a community radio station, Nkomazi FM is a beacon of hope, having had challenges and sometimes being off-air for a couple of months, but still winning an award is truly an honour. It is truly amazing. One thing I am failing to express is how grateful I am. It is always about God and it will always be. We are still going to bring hope even if we are off-air. We are still going to bring hope to the people of Nkomazi and encourage them to continue to look to Jesus as the only hope we have. Asidumiseni njalo is a show that has become home for me every Sunday,” she said.
