Mpumalanga ANC refutes claims of Msibi’s suspension

The ANC in Mpumalanga has distanced themselves from the supposed suspension letter to their provincial treasurer, Mandla Msibi.
News of Msibi being suspended from his political home, the ANC, surfaced on the evening of Thursday January 18.

This publication immediately called Msibi to verify if he had been indeed suspended or not. He responded that he knew nothing of the sort since he had not received anything in writing from his organisation.

He referred this publication to the party’s provincial leadership, citing that he could not comment on organisational issues, especially coming from the rumour mill.

This publication had reliably learnt that Msibi was going to be charged with bringing the organisation into disrepute following alleged plans to sabotage the January 8 Statement held at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday January 13.

Asked if he had indeed planned to sabotage his organisation, Msibi laughed off the matter and said he would never do such.

He told this publication that he met with the MEC for safety, security and community liaison in Mpumalanga, Vusi Shongwe, and police minister, Bheki Cele, and they had a lengthy discussion.

He said the reason why he did not attend the ANC celebration was the fact that he had to travel to Hammanskraal in Gauteng to prepare for his brother’s burial.

Msibi’s brother, Zanemvula Msibi, also known as Mswati, passed away last Wednesday, January 10.

Pressed to comment on the alleged suspension, the ANC provincial secretary, Muzi Chirwa, said they also don’t know anything of the matter.

“Comrade Mandla Msibi is still the treasurer of the ANC in the province,” confirmed Chirwa.

This publication has also reliably learnt that the party’s national executive committee has just started with the process of nominating members for the premiership position, and therefore purging within this organisation has also begun.

Msibi, the current chairperson, Mandla Ndlovu, and the current premier, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, are some of the strong contenders for the top position, but only if the ANC wins the upcoming elections.
