Acornhoek radio presenter aims to host on big stations

‘Dokodela Ya Rhadiyo’, a Xitsonga-speaking radio host currently taking over the airwaves of Radio Bushbuckridge FM, shares his dreams of presenting at bigger stations in the future.

A local radio host known as ‘Dokodela Ya Rhadiyo’ (the Radio Doctor), Promise Mathebula (27), aims to be one of the Xitsonga/Shangaan radio presenters to make it in the entertainment industry.

Growing up in Acornhoek, Mathebula said he was fascinated by the voices heard on the radio and was inspired to become a host.

“I finally ventured into radio in 2019 after completing my matric. I volunteered at the local station, R FM, based in Acornhoek, until 2022. I was motivated to grow my passion into a career and hoped it would finally allow me to make a living from it,” he said.

Mathebula calls himself ‘Dokodela Ya Rhadiyo’, because he aims to heal listeners in his shows. “I always want to inspire listeners to find healing from whatever they may be going through, just from listening to my show, and that fulfils me.”
