Mpumalanga Department of Health bids farewell to four managers

Ida Makwetla, Khanyisile Makhanya, Nomsa Memela and Dudu Mbambo each served for decades.

As the year comes to an end, the Mpumalanga Department of Health bade farewell to four dedicated senior managers who had served in the health sector for years. Led by the head of department, Dr Lucas Ndhlovu, an event to wish them well in their future endeavours was held at Khayalami Lodge on Monday November 27.

Ida Makwetla, Khanyisile Makhanya, Nomsa Memela and Dudu Mbambo had each served for over three decades. Various officials and colleagues attended the event and celebrated with these stalwarts.

Addressing the retirees, Ndhlovu said, “We wish you all the best in the next phase of your life. You have served the people with diligence and made a mark in your respective directorates. A lot has been learnt from your good experiences as pioneers of healthcare services. Throughout the years you have shown the epitome of great leadership and emotional intelligence, intuitive strategies and expertise in your various fields. You were always well balanced, grounded and devoted to the Lord by serving His people with dedication. You have shown how to be great leaders with humour and added value to service delivery.”

Makwetla started her career as a professional nurse in 1981, when she moved through the ranks in community health clinics from 1985, serving in various roles and areas. She was appointed in an acting capacity as deputy director general of clinical services from April 2021 to March 2023.

Memela served the department from 1986 when she started working at Embhuleleni Hospital as a ward sister and clinical instructor. She served in several roles. She was appointment as acting chief director of primary healthcare from October 2021 to March 2023.

Mbambo started at Tinstwalo Hospital as a student nurse in 1986. She served in various roles. From 2019 to 2023 she was the director of the TB Control Programme.
Makhanya joined the department in 1989 and worked at Embhuleni Hospital. In 2010, she was appointed as the deputy director of strategic planning, then deputy director of district hospital services until 2023. She served in a number of roles.
