Cancer awareness event welcomes all men in Mpumalanga

The main aim of the awareness is to encourage men not to die inside, and to remove the stigma from society that real men don't talk. This encourages them to live healthy lifestyles and have random health checks for chronic diseases.

The Vitamum Wellness & Lifestyle Foundation will host a cancer awareness event at Ngwaritšane in Bushbuckridge in November that focuses on men.

The aim of the initiative is to create a platform for men to talk about healthy lifestyles. According to the founder of the organisation, Kholo Mogane, she came up with the idea in memory of her late husband, who died from a rare cancer of the heart.

“I realised how many men die inside and are not talking, so we are trying to remove the stigma from our society that real men don’t talk. We also want to encourage them to live healthy lifestyles and have random health checks for chronic diseases.

“I want to sensitise men to talk about cancer and how we can delay it by living a healthy lifestyle. The awareness is part of giving back to the community through the Jabu Sidlamlilo Foundation, which will officially be launched on November 18,” she said.

Mogane wants to create a platform on which men can openly express their emotions without fear of being mocked. “Research shows that most diseases are stress-related. Stress is normal for everyone; however, too much can lead to stress-related illnesses. We are dedicated to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, and my objective is to establish it as a way of life, rather than a mere obligation or a luxury reserved for a chosen few. I aspire to see families seemlessly integrate it into their daily routines and become mindful of the activities that can contribute to their physical well-being.”

Mogane added that, as part of a healthy lifestyle, men will be encouraged to exercise often, eat less junk food and drink less alcohol. “Detoxing can help cleanse the body of harmful toxins, improve overall well-being, boost energy levels, enhance mental clarity and support a healthier lifestyle. By participating, you can discover how detoxing can positively impact your health and support our fundraising efforts,” Mogane explained.

She also called on men to live a healthy lifestyle and do random check-ups even if they are not sick.
