Duo of girls promote giving back to the Bushbuckridge community

The founders of the Changing Lives movement aim to create equality for young girls. Read more about them here.

Carmen Ndhlovu (20) and Eunanda Dhlamini (20) are two young friends ready to make the world a better place for their peers.

They founded a movement called Changing Lives in Thulamahashe in 2022.

They gather sanitary towel packs, food parcels and clothes to give to the most underprivileged households around Bushbuckridge.

“It is not easy to run a project aimed at uplifting the communities at a young age, because sometimes we get insulted at shops when we ask for donations. We have never given up, because we believe in giving back to make the world an equal place for all. Seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they receive our donations keeps us going – it is heart-warming,” Ndhlovu said.

She said they want to inspire other people, especially their peers, to give back to their communities. “Changing a life does not have to cost millions, or even have to take a million beneficiaries. Helping one person at a time is just as impactful.”

Ndhlovu said they donated 100 sanitary towel packs to the schoolgirls of Manyakatana Primary School in Newington B and clothes to underprivileged girls last year. The clothes were packaged into boxes for the handover.

“We are engaging with community stakeholders to help us to continue providing basic needs to more youngsters within the Bushbuckridge area. We also make use of our Facebook social media pages to gain awareness of our projects.”

Ndhlovu said they hope to become an organisation that will establish a home for homeless people, especially children.

“Anyone who would like to donate clothes or anything can reach us on 060 604 2444 so that we can make this world a better place to live for someone in need,” she said.
