Kameelrivier sees provincial celebration of Heritage Day and cultural diversity

The acting premier, Thandi Shongwe, said this celebration is crucial to remind all of us that we are united in diversity as a province.

“As we celebrate Heritage Day, let us be mindful of our responsibility to promote ubuntu as an inalienable value system that our moral regeneration is premised upon.”

These were the words by the acting premier, Thandi Shongwe, who delivered a keynote address at the 2023 Provincial Commemoration of Heritage Day at Kameelriver B Stadium in Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality on September 24.

The celebration was attended by various stakeholders, officials and community members. It was celebrated under the theme ‘Celebrating our cultural diversity in a democratic South Africa’.

Shongwe said, “It is a great privilege for me to join the people of Kameelrivier as we commemorate what defines and unite us as a province. On this auspicious day, we celebrate the rich and diverse cultural and traditional heritage that has been passed down to us by abo Gogo nabo Mkhulu. It is on this day that we celebrate our cultural and our living heritage, as expressed in our traditions, rituals and indigenous knowledge systems. One of the distinct features of our beautiful province is our unity in cultural diversity, reflected by the various cultural groups in attendance today. This celebration today is crucial to remind all of us that we are united in diversity as a province.”
