IN PHOTOS: Marchers parade against GBV in Mbombela and Pienaar

Community members and stakeholders took over some streets in Mbombela’s CBD and in Pienaar, actively creating awareness against gender-based violence.

Closing off Women’s Month, some community members, led by members of the SANDF and law enforcement officers, took part in a gender-based violence (GBV) parade today, August 31, to create awareness against this social ill.

They marched from The Square Nelspruit to Anderson Street and drove to Msogwaba Community Hall in Pienaar to continue the parade.

One of the organisers, Captain Mandisa Mbatha, said the aim of the parade is to unite various community stakeholders in the fight against GBV.

“Pienaar has become a hotspot for GBV cases, and we need to take up all the space we can to help victims and educate the perpetrators. We have a lot of organisations that supported the initiative, and we hope our aim will be successful, too,” she said.
