Mpumalanga MEC for safety urges SAPS to remain relentless in fight against crime
MEC Vusi Shongwe said the police should not be deterred, but continue to give it their all to protect and serve communities.
The Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Vusi Shongwe, has asked the provincial police to remain relentless in the fight against crime. Even if they are attacked by criminals, he said.
Shongwe was reacting to the latest incident in which a 34-year-old police constable, Mzwandile Innocent Mthana, was shot and killed while responding to a business burglary scene in Dwaleni near KaBokweni on Friday July 28.

“The police should not be deterred, but continue to give it their all to protect and serve communities. In honouring the bravery of the departed constable and many others who had lost their lives in the line of duty, the police must urgently bring to book whoever is responsible for this tragedy,” said Shongwe.

He is calling on members of the public with any information regarding this case, to come forward and assist the police.
“Once those who are responsible are caught, they must be given lengthy jail terms.”
Shongwe also sent out his condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of the deceased.
