Mpumalanga Department of Education’s Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena Campaign activated

The Mpumalanga DoE’s spokesperson, Jasper Zwane, said the campaign aims to promote a sense of community ownership of schools and instil a sense of pride in students and the community, and to improve the quality of education.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education (DoE) has announced the schedule for the 2023 Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena Campaign activations on July 21.
This campaign is an annual initiative that encourages communities to come together to clean and maintain their schools. It seeks to address most of the negative challenges experienced at schools by mobilising communities to own and safeguard the respective institutions.

At the end of the campaign they announce a winner. Tfolinhlanhla Primary School in Shabalala outside Hazyview was the winner of the 2022 Cleanest School Award in the province. It received R50 000 from Sasol, R10 000 from Old Mutual, R10 000, a UPS for Wi-Fi and accessories from Telkom and R100 000, a microwave oven and a South African flag from the department. Fundi contributed R7 000 towards the success of the event.

The DoE spokesperson, Jasper Zwane, said, “The local schools are encouraged to mobilise local stakeholders, including parents, businesses and non-governmental organisations to help with the campaign. The goals of the Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena Campaign are to create a clean and safe learning environment, to promote a sense of community ownership of schools, instil a sense of pride in students and the community, and to improve the quality of education.”

Zwane said the members of school governing bodies are requested to lead from the front to motivate communities to participate in this campaign. “Schools are expected to launch on the following dates: Bohlabela District on August 3, Ehlanzeni District on July 25, Gert Sibande District on August 8 and Nkangala District on July 27.”
